This sound-file is a collection of the original reports which were broadcast several days prior to the airing of Orson Welles and The Mercury Theater On Air presentation of War of the Worlds. Being only a few days before Halloween, it was easy for everyone to write these reports off as fake, and several days later an hour long "radio drama" portraying these events concealed the truth behind the guise of holiday entertainment.
The most interesting and perhaps disturbing part about the whole thing is that the aliens supposedly died off due to small organisms which attacked the Martians' immune systems. However, we have eyewitness accounts which say this is not the true story, and in fact the aliens were integrated into our society and reside among us to this day. We know that at least one of those species was assimilated into society after crashing into the town of Grover's Mill.

The Original Reports
Eyewitness Accounts: From Residents of Grover's Mill, NJ.
Oliver Sayler:
"Mama made meatloaf and then I went to go to bed. I heard a loud crash and it scared me bad. I screamed and Mama made me go down to the basement with my blanket. We stayed down there for a long time. She went up to check after awhile, but when she came back she was white as a ghost. She kept saying she was fine but I knew better. She won't talk about that night with me no more."
Cora Sayler:
"Dinner was over and I had sent my boy to go wash up for bed. I was cleaning the kitchen when I heard the crash. It scared me right down into my bones. I ran to the washroom and told Oliver to come to the basement with me. I locked the shutters and the doors. I went up the stairs an hour later after no more crashes were heard, and that's when I saw it. Through the living room window I saw the tripod crashing through the power lines. It looked like an animal, but made out of metal. I saw it shoot a large beam of light out of its nose and it blew up the telephone tower. I forced myself to keep quiet and ran back downstairs and rocked Oliver to sleep, telling him and myself everything was going to be okay. No one believes what I saw. Next day utility trucks were there all day, fixing the power lines, saying they had some vandalism the night before. Government men running all around. To this day they say it was just kids playing pranks, but I know what I saw."
Eddie Kemp:
"It was a nice enough night, I was sitting on the porch smoking a tobacco pipe enjoying the breeze when all the sudden I heard a huge crash! Like one of them bombs had gone off. I went inside, told my wife to stay in the house and grabbed my shotgun. Ran down the road a ways to Grover's Mill farm, where I saw a huge commotion; it seemed all the people from town were there. We all gathered round a huge hole in the ground, steaming with a huge white thing in the middle of it. Then the top unscrewed and this thing came outta it. The tentacles were the most unnatural thing I ever saw in my whole life. I didn't look twice, I started running. I heard the screams when I was a good ways away. Went back home and told the kids and my wife to get in the cellar. We stayed there for I don't know how long. when we came out, it was light out, my cows were dead, and some governement officials came to tell me about some strange testing they was doing to find out what killed my cows. I took their check and never thought about it again til today. Some things better left unthought bout."
